School Coach
The Northeast Office of Regional School Improvement Services offers
School Coaches to affected school to help them comply with the Federal
No Child Left Behind Act.
The School Coach provides part-time, on-site technical assistance
to schools that are federally designated as in "School Improvement" status.
The School Coach assists school leadership in expanding staff capacity
related to implementation of standards-based education.
School districts with schools in "School Improvement" status
contract with the Cuyahoga County Educational Service Center (CCESC)
to provide coaching services. The School Coach is under contract
with the ESC and remuneration is commensurate with the policy and
procedures established by the ESC. School Coaches assigned to districts
in Northeast Ohio generally report to the Project Director.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Facilitate school and classroom implementation of the Ohio Academic
Content Standards in Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics.
- Assist low-performing schools in achieving their growth and performance
goals in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Participate with the District Coach in conducting a school needs
assessment.
- Analyze disaggregated school and classroom test data to plan
for improvement.
- Assist in determining professional development needs.
- Facilitate classroom-embedded professional development for instructional
staff.
- Assist classroom teachers to apply effective instructional practices
through planning, modeling, coaching, feedback, and use of instructional
resources.
- Assist teaching staff with planning for and delivering differentiated
instruction.
- Provide assistance in use of classroom-based student-involved
formative assessment to inform instruction.
- Participate as part of the school's School Improvement Planning
Team.
- Compile and submit reports of technical assistance provided and
progress of the school.
- Work cooperatively with other School Coaches in the district
and the District Coach to provide coordinated and high quality
coaching services.
